Update from English and Languages, Literatures, and Cultures
- December 05, 2018
By Daren Timmons
Dear Faculty and Staff,
I am pleased to announce the merger of the Departments of English and Languages, Literatures, and Cultures starting in Fall 2019.
Dr. Victor Durán is retiring, and Dr. Drew Geyer will serve as the department chair after the merger. Dr. Tim Ashton will coordinate the curriculum and assessment for languages, literatures, and cultures activities within the new department, including the pursuit of a major in Spanish with a translation emphasis.
Coincident with this are searches for two assistant professors in Spanish — one as a replacement for Dr. Durán, and the other a conversion of an instructor position to tenure-track.
We anticipate this will increase the robustness of our LLC programs and stimulate some additional interdisciplinary opportunities for faculty and students within the new department.
A transition team of faculty from each department and Dean Hollingsworth will be convened in the Spring to work through all the details, to include a new departmental name.
