Student Athletes Welcomed Back
The University of South Carolina Aiken Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a "Welcome Back" event for student-athletes on Sunday, August 26, 2018.
The SAAC serves to enhance the voice of the student-athlete and to ensure the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes, protecting the student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image. Each team is represented by one upperclassman and one underclassman on the SAAC.
The 2018-19 SAAC Executive Board includes President Rebecca Martinez, a junior volleyball player, Vice President Faison Brock, a junior men’s basketball player, and Secretary/Treasurer Kaitlyn Armstrong, a senior women’s soccer player.
Before leaving for the summer, the 2017-18 SAAC members talked at length about having a Welcome Back event in the fall where all the student-athletes could network amongst themselves and build relationships with student-athletes from all teams. Former Pacers baseball standout Leon Lott, long-time Sheriff of Richland County, S.C., provided the keynote address at the event with a message to take advantage of the opportunity to be a student-athlete at USC Aiken. The teams then paired off in a Cornhole Tournament, which was won by the golf team, before enjoying an ice cream social event and an opportunity to mingle amongst themselves for the first time in 2018-19.
